Half Term Work Pitch and Audience research - CF

12C

You need to complete audience research and begin working on a pitch of your film concept and opening idea to get the green light. You will have 1 lesson upon your return to pull the presentation together.

You can use PPT or Prezi. Take real care in its presentation, not posting a script on the slides, but instead using the notes pages for your script and images / key words on the screen. I suggest you divide up the sections and prepare slides over half term - ready to compile and rehearse in your first lesson.

Pitch (in any order):

• treatment including outline of your opening sequence idea
• summary of findings from film analysis/research
• moodboards
• summary of findings from audience research (questionnaire on surveymonkey)
• Location reccie
• Information on characters / costume / props
• Specific shot / technical ideas
• any other information / research which will convince us that your concept is well thought out, feasible and set to be a successful piece

The pitch is a formal part of the coursework and we will need to be contacted in advance if there are any absences.

Concept Development and Moodboard 12D

This week's work on concept development needs to be solidified into a comprehensive blog entry and a moodboard by the end of Friday's lesson. When constructing the moodboard, consider the following points:

A moodboard is a visual representation of your ideas so far.

It includes still images and text which reflect your interpretation of the chosen sub- genre. It shows how your secondary research has influenced you.

Include:
1. A range of locations
2. Lighting ideas – visual and/or words
3. Costumes, hair and makeup
4. Characters – male/female, protagonist/antagonist + stock characters
5. SPX/editing in terms of pro-filmic and post production effects ie. Blurring,
black and white, under-cranking, shallow focus
6. Style – colours
7. Fonts, title effects
8. Soundtrack – words to show connotations of sounds/moods, show what
instruments would be suitable to create the mood, music
- dialogue – words that could be said, tone, pitch of voice
- use of silence?
- diegetic sound
9. Camera techniques – words/stills illustrating different
distances/angles/movement

Considering titles

The following website chronicles the evolution of the film title. It includes examples of sequences using interesting fonts and animation. At the bottom of the page are links to other useful websites featuring titles and fonts.

12C - First planning task

Year 12C - Mrs Fernandez

Your HW and cover work all due for Wednesday's lesson is as follows:

1. Post up your HW research from last week, looking at different styles of film openings

2. Complete the genre analysis tasks 1,2,3 in /planning/ - each group member researching the conventions of one of the three genres. Use images and embedded clips in your post where possible.

3. Comment on each other's research and discuss on the blog which genre you are going to work in

4. visit http://www.artofthetitle.com/ and begin researching a variety of film openings. The more film you watch over the next few weeks - the broader your creative path. Post a review on the blog that particularly inspire you.

5. Watch the lecture by Kyle Cooper - famous title graphic designer / editor on The Art of the Title website. It is over 80 mins long, so skim through however he is the director of famous openings such as 'Seven' and it is incredibly interesting to hear his ideas.

Marking your blogs

You need to ensure that you have the following evidence, findings, scanned in examples are on the blog in its own clearly marked post(s):

1. audience research - concept
2. audience research - rough cut
3. audience research - final cut
4. Pitch slides and feedback on idea
5. preliminary task and reflection on how it went, what you learnt
6. Animatic - reflect on how storyboarding went
7. Reccie images...
8. Scanned in risk assessment and call sheet with explanation of 'process'

Make sure all posts are tidy, spellchecked and completed and that you have commented on each other's posts.
