Task 15: Group: Animatic

New project in Adobe Premiere.  Select and drag footage onto timeline. Using time stretch, edit each clip in accordance with the planned duration.  Key frame in any camera movement.  Add soundtrack and sound effects.  Include titles.
Reflect on this task by answering questions:

1. Describe the purpose of this task and detail the process you went through.
2. What have you learned from completing this task?  Comment on: cutting rate, range of camera techniques, length of film, relationship between sound and visuals, composition and framing.

Task 13 - Group: Audience Research

You aim to test your concept on a sample of 20 respondents from your target audience.  You then write up your research on the blog as a series of bullet points under four headings:  Purpose.  Methodology.  Results.  Evaluation.  You will need to use key terminology given in the lesson.  Use visual evidence, eg. the questionnaire, pie or bar charts. examples of filled in sections of the questionnaire.

Deadline: Wednesday 17th December 8pm.

Task 12 - Group Pitch presentation

12B need to be prepared for Thursday 11th, 12A for Friday 12th.

Your pitch presentation should then be posted on the blog, with a summary of feedback.

Task 11 - Individual: Technical Analysis

Use the booklet for guidance on layout of this post and subsequent questions.  You do not have to analyse an opening sequence of a film; the Vampire Diaries extract is a TV series but utilises film language accessible to students as well as being conventional and creative.  Analyse a film that will feed into your concept, in style, genre, narrative... Decide in your groups which you will each do, ensure you don't do the same one.
When complete, answer the questions in the booklet as bullet points

Deadline:  Sunday 7 December, 8 pm

Storyboard:

After completion, you will be asked to storyboard the most iconic six frames you analysed, adapting them to fit your own concept.  You could export stills whilst viewing the film and construct an electronic storyboard.  Alternatively freeze the screen and draw frames.

Task 10 - Concept development

This week you need to begin to document your concept development  You should now have decided a sub-genre and have an idea forming for a film concept. This will be done through group discussion and group posts, as well as individual research into different areas that will feed into the treatment.  By Friday 5th 8pm you should have:

1. group post on your group discussion from class - this can be a photograph of mindmap / visual evidence
2. Individual posts carrying out initial research into:

• potential locations
• fonts for title
• costume and props
• soundtracks
• sound effects

These will be shorter posts than last week's analysis - however you should mention related films and may have links to other sites.  Use visuals where appropriate.

It is likely that you will come back to these aspects and post again, but by the end of the week we would expect you to have begun specific research to feed into your concept.

Task 9 - Preliminary task Due Friday 28th 3.45pm

As per your worksheet, you must create:

Continuity task involving filming and editing a character opening a door, crossing a room and sitting down in a chair opposite another character, with whom she/he then exchanges a couple of lines of dialogue. This task should demonstrate match on action, shot/reverse shot and the 180-degree rule.

You should experiment with horror conventions in your interpretation of this brief.  This is due by the end of the week - Friday 28th 3.45pm and should be posted on the blog along with an evaluation of the process.
